If you are just joining me, welcome! You can find an explanation of this series here: Day 1 – Introduction.
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” Genesis 22:13-14.
Story: Genesis 22:6-19
Of all the look up encounters, this one holds the deepest personal significance. My story is woven into this story. Perhaps someday that story will be told. But His part of this story is the part that can affect yours, as well.
In a sermon years ago, my pastor explained that Abraham and Isaac foreshadowed the Heavenly Father sacrificing his only beloved Son for us, in place of us. That stuck with me.
I knew sacrifice was necessary. I understood obedience brings blessing. But I’d not seen the tremendous grace the whole event pointed to. Namely, that favor with God doesn’t come through our own sacrifices — they are never enough — but from Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
